Hello, tomshardware community!

I'm building my first desktop. I will use it for gaming, of course and for some video editing. I want to edit and render about 1 video per 1-3 days. I know that i7 will render videos significantly faster because of hyperthreading and more things. But it's the question about the cost.

I want to know the exact Intel Core i5-4690 video rendering times. Maybe it is rendering videos quite fast and I don't have to spend much more money for i7 processor to make 1 video per 1-3 days.

Solution
Hehehehe...

Xeon 1231V3 is among the best price/performance proc available today, including for gaming.
It is basically an i7 4790 (non-K), non-OC-able, minus the iGPU and 100MHz slower.
The price is the most attractive part, since it is about as expensive/cheap as i5 4690k.
Speed in rendering depends on many factors:
1. Rendering software. (is the software capable of using Multi Threads, etc.)
2. Complexity of the rendering item. (Resolution, framerate, length, etc.)
3. Specs of the entire components RAM, HDD/SSD, etc. etc.

Nobody can provide you the exact number.
You just have to try it or used benchmark programs.

I laughed too hard at this, firstly got really confused as to why you said you can't game on it 😀 lol

Thanks for all your answers! Appreciate that all :) I haven't mentioned about the video quality and other things. I want to edit 1680 * 1050 resolution 60 FPS videos with voice and game music. They will be 15 - 20 minutes log. I'm planning to use Adobe After Effects and Sony vegas pro 12 or 13.
