OK, so Wren is a Zenith (and isn't his name frightfully English?).
Yusuv is a Dawn. What's Ratcatcher?

Ratcatcher is an Abyssal, written back before the authors knew what
Abyssals would really be like. Hence names like "Ratcatcher" and
"Shamblemerry."

The Trilogy of the Sun isn't actually very good. The first book is
neat, and the second book is okay, but the third book is blah, and none
of them really feel like they're set in Creation at this point.

I drew the conclusion that Ratcatcher was a Solar from this:

"Now imagine feeling that way every day, with fat priests reading
your death sentence reading your death sentence out of a book
you don't understand. A man gets tired of it, even a man who's
been told he's not a man any more. <...> That's when you start
looking for alternatives, my friend. Even when you've got the sun
shouting at you in your dreams, you start looking for other
friends..."

So, no he wasn't an Abyssal so far as I can see. He was a Solar
with very low self-esteem who allied himself with the Abyss.

No, he was an Abyssal. He was just an Abyssal that used to be a Solar.

Shamblemerry is a nemissary, if I recall correctly. And I think
Ratcatcher is a great name for an Abyssal at the bottom of the pecking
order. (^_^)

Yes.

Isn't Shamblemerry the one that shows up later as an Abyssal, has a
martial arts fight with Holok, doesn't die, and creeps back into the
catacombs to recuperate?

I do not remember, and I do not care enough to re-read the series. (^_^)

Yes. She gets beaten by Holok, crawls back to the catacombs and eventually
is destroyed by Wren.

BTW I liked the Exalted trilogy in that it introduced me to Exalted. It gave
me enough of a feel for the setting for me to immediately go out and get it.

But I do think that it tried to cover too much (most chapters were quite
short).
