Ok. So the Alchemicals is gonna come out. The Fair Folk are getting a hard
back.

What else is known as of now?

Nephipal wrote the Mountain Folk section of Exalted: The Fair Folk, and
only the Mountain Folk section. The Mountain Folk apparently get their
own rules as well as their own fluff, and don't resemble other Fair Folk
much at all, and are apparently tied directly into one of the most
ancient and hidden secrets of Creation itself... which isn't surprising,
considering where they live.

Geoff has described the bits of the book that Rebecca wrote as "Rebecca
at her best." We don't know what those bits are yet, though.

He's also described the Fair Folk themselves as "Beautiful dark angels
made entirely of lies," and noted that Changeling fans who enjoy the
eternal innocence of childhood bits from Changeling will be disappointed.

Oh, and apparently they've kept the Warriors / Workers / Entertainers /
Diplomats / Nobles division, although Rebecca got to rename the
categories to something a bit less dull. But she won't tell us what she
renamed them.

Also, from hints dropped by Rebecca, the Fair Folk powers are called
Charms, because Charms at this point just means "Powers that Eclipse
Caste Solars can learn," and Eclipse Caste Solars have been able to
learn Fair Folk Glamour since, um, some book that was published a good
while ago.

We haven't really heard anything about Alchemicals yet.

That's totally awesome, and gratuitous in the good way.

Actually, I realized after I sent the post that I should have been more
specific. My question meant to say "What else is on the release schedule?"

Though hearing those bits about the Fair Folk makes me feel better. Though
that comment about Changeling fans rubs me a touch, but that's a matter for
a different day.

Oh.

http://www.lensmen.net/wiki/exalted.pl?ExaltedReleaseSchedule

The Scarlet Manual of Proper Bearing is going to be Exalted's equivalent
of the Gilded Cage, apparently.

The Book of Bone and Ebony basically does for the Abyssals and the
Underworld what The Outcaste did for the Terrestrials, plus being the
Necromancy-equivalent of the Book of 3 Circles / Sorcerer & Savant.

The wall scroll has been canceled. Apparently they couldn't figure out
a pricing scheme, or something -- it would have been vinyl, and that was
too expensive to make. Just stuff I've heard.

Maybe you can console yourself with Dark Ages: Fae?

It's the fact that I DIDN'T like Changeling for it's cute and happy stuff.
But still, everyone assumes "Oh, so a game about the Fair Folk will suit
you". It won't. I mean, I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but it's still not what I
enjoyed out of Changeling, and I kinda wish people would stop assuming that
the replacement is good enough. I'm going to enjoy the Fair Folk for being
the Fair Folk, not for being "Changeling Exalted!" It's kinda like saying
"Demon is kinda like Vampire. If you like Vampire, you'll like Demon.
What's the diff? Isn't this better?"

....

And Demon would have been a HELL of a lot better if it was based on the
Yozi. All I'm sayin'.

Hm. I looked at this after I replied before (mostly to get that Fair Folk
thing outta my system).

"Exalted: the Fair Folk" is a mistake. They SHOULD have done "Graceful,
Wicked Masks". Yes, it takes places IN the world of Exalted, but it's not
ABOUT Exalted. Personal beef I have. Just like I wish the core was called
"Exalted: the Solars". But who cares. We're getting a Fair Folk hardback.

Hm. All the Aspects will be out by next year. So far away, but still seems
so quick.

Exalted STH: I want essays. I want advice. I want a book that makes the
Mage STH look horridly incomplete! I DEMAND MUCH!!!

"Exalted: the Infernals", not a hardcover? I'm sad.

"The Empress' Return": is that the title? I'd hope not. Also, is that IT?
I mean, not to be GREEDY, but like, I always liked the format of "You get
THIS splat with THIS thing they're near". Like Dynast
Society/Dragon-Blooded, the Underworld/Abyssals, etc, etc, etc...

Now this wall scroll.

....

What exactly would it BE? Like...a...a hanging poster thingie?

From a marketing standpoint, "Exalted: The Fair Folk" is the right
title. It's a branding thing -- all the hardcovers line up nice, it's
clearly an Exalted supplement, and people who collect the Exalted
hardcovers are more likely to pick it up.

Also, Geoff says he will very likely use Graceful, Wicked Masks if he
does a The Outcaste / The Book of Bone and Ebony sourcebook about the
Fair Folk. It's too good a title to just dissapear.

> Hm. All the Aspects will be out by next year. So far away, but still seems

Apparently those will be the last of the thinsplats. No Lunar or
Abyssal or Sidereal Caste Books for us.

Hopefully there'll be more The Outcaste-style metasplats.

> Exalted STH: I want essays. I want advice. I want a book that makes the

Same here. Also, high-Essence Charms for Solars, Dragon-Blooded,
Abyssals, and Lunars would not be out of line.

> "Exalted: the Infernals", not a hardcover? I'm sad.

That hasn't been confirmed either way. I would be surprised if it
weren't a hardcover -- it's just not called a hardcover on Blaque's list
because it's never been specifically mentioned as one.

This has only ever been mentioned once, on the mailing list. Geoff said
something like "I'd like to do a hardcover on the Empress's return."
He's never mentioned an official title; in fact I don't think it's come
up since then. And this was mentioned shortly after Exalted: The
Dragon-Blooded was published.

It's quite possible that we'll get a hardcover on the return of the
Scarlet Empress and it'll be called "Exalted: The Infernals."

Hanging poster made of vinyl. Presumably it would have been an image of
some sort. One of the options was, apparently, a larger map, in which
case I'm happy it didn't get made because they would probably have asked
me to stop distributing mine in such a case.

WAAAAAAH!!

Sales on the Aspect Books not good enough, or does GCG just want to
focus on other stuff right now?

Yes. I particularly want more information on what happens as
high-Essence Exalted start to transcend their humanity. I like the
direction suggested by Nephilpal for high-powered Abyssals, for example.

But still, /Exalted/ wall tapestry would be cool.

It's really the same sort of thing as when the leadership of
China changes- the mistakes of the former regime are emphasized.
As far as Changeling goes, it had some really neat elements in
there, but it was overshadowed by the really annoying stuff- and
that's what everyone remembers. So WW has to take pains to
separate itself from the mistakes of the past.

Of course. And Hunter would have been better if it had been
based on Exalted. None of this "We want normal people who are
doomed to fight the darkness" business- I want something that can
outdo "Heroic Trio for over the top action.

But that's just me.

Although not really necessary, examples of Combos and stuff like the
Imbue Amalgam spell would be nice (I really didn't realize how cool
that spell was till James went on about it!)...I'd really appreciate
more cultural info and background detail about the various
geographical regions...

AFAIK, wall scrolls are unique to anime merchandising. Think of a
long, thin tube with a rolled up poster inside. Hang it on a wall and
pull down the poster like a venetian blind. Usually much larger than
posters.

A map would be hella cool. Most likely it would be signature
characters, like Dace's Circle, or one of the various other kinds of
Exalted...The cover of Sidereals or Games of Divinity would be
sweet...

It seems pretty clear that the Fae of Exalted are not the Tuaatha De Denaan
of Changeling. Changeling always had a kind of summer/winter, day/night,
"Good/Evil" dichotomy happening with it's Fae. Not Exalted.

In a certain way, the Fae of Exalted seem to be mad, inchoate powers of the
outer void, primal harbingers of chaos who can only be given the barest
forms by the imaginations of those who reside in Creation. The Fair Folk
seem to have more in common with Moorcock's Lords of Chaos than with faeries
from our own mythology.

Which is good!

The Changeling 2nd Ed. corebook described the difference between Seelie and
Unseelie as being "Guardians of fae traditions, peacekeepers, protectors of
the weak, traditional, conservative...." (pg 72), and Unseelie as "mockers
of [fae] traditions. Stand for principles of constant change, valuing
freedom and wildness. See themselves as radical visionaries, bringing about
vital change and transformation through whatever means neccasary."

See, that's really f'n cool. If not really f'n cool, at least broad enough
to be f'n cool. Unfortunately, and you're right, the writers throughout the
line very quickly abandoned this cool potential and just fell back on "I'm
Unseelie, I'm evil, BoooOooOoooO!".

But, anyway, had they actually stuck to the above description, I think you'd
see a lot of the same distinction you see between Exalted Fae; the Mountain
Folk vs. Those Outside Creation.

See, that's just it.

Then came the whole thing about all Redcaps are Unseelie. Well, not really
said, but heavily implied that Seelie Redcaps are jokes.

And, to say this, I played a Seelie Redcap Grump, and a few people told me
he was pretty cool.

The Seelie, Unseelie, Dauntain thing was something I really wanted to rework
to make it less stupid and more functional as a means of character
interaction. Drat that un-finished Changeling Revised book of mine.
