I hope I'm explaining this all right.

We have suddenlink ISP our modem is an Arris Touchstone DG3270A we are wanting to add more ethernet connections so we can connect 8 different devices. Ps4, 2 camera systems, 5 pc's.

My question is can we connect a switch to our model modem? Suddenlink tech told me it was a router so we could connect the switch directly to it.

I'm not thinking so. But just want clarification before I order a router.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Does the following link show your router?

All you should need is a simple unmanaged 8 port switch.

ISP ----> DG3270A[LAN]----Ethernet cable ---->Switch.

You will have 3 LAN ports remaining available on the DG3270A plus 7 ports remaining available on the switch.

Based on the number of devices you may better off with a 16 port switch.

Lots of Ethernet cables needed unless some devices will be wirelessly networked.

However the geography matters. Does your home have ethernet jacks in the rooms?

We are installing jacks in each room. Plus we have a very open attic to be able to run cables easily.
