I've been having quite a few problems with crashes occurring over the past few months; each crash has been said to be caused by hal.dll. I don't know if it's a driver issue, windows error, or whatever else it may be. The crashes occur most often when I have Google Chrome open, or when I'm playing video games, but also occurs after startup. Curiously, the computer will usually only crash once, and then work fine for the rest of the day. I would like to know why this is happening so I could fix it, but am really unsure of what to do.
Ill post the minidump file for the most recent crash, as well as the problem signature. Thanks in advance for your help.

Problem signature:

try running command and prompt and inputting this

sfc /scannow

this will scan them files mine found corrupt files as i was having same issues as you but didn't fix them all now started up a thread on the topic and now waiting to see if it happens again. what you need to do is refresh your windows i am not prepared to do this as i will have to re install all apps.

Just ran it, didnt find any problems. I guess you mean I need to reinstall windows? And might I need to to fully partition my hard drive, just in case?

Also, sometimes my computer can run extremely slow after startup, despite it not having any file bloat and pretty good system hardware (12 GB RAM, Core i7). Although it hasn't happened in a few days, when I would try to do anything immediately after startup it would do the aforementioned, and in task manager it would show one of the cores operating at 100% with none of the others doing the same, if that sheds any light on my problems.

mate i can not help you any further sorry im in the same boat

Hi, hal.dll is the hardware abstraction layer. It's the part of the kernel that is responsible for handling platform specific tasks. The dump can be interpreted as follows:

Bug Check Code (BCCode) 124 indicates an uncorrectable hardware error (the attached hardware is triggering the error, not software).

Bug Check Parameter 1 (BCP1) has a value of 4 which indicates that the error was generated by a device attached to a PCI Express controller, so start looking there

The second parameter BCP2 is the address of the error record. Unfortunately this doesn't tell us what device caused the problem.

Please provide us with a full system spec.

Yes it absolutely could be caused by an overclock. I'll look at your crash dump later on if I have time

Alright, so it appears that the intel cpu chipset (x58) is connected to the PCI Bus, as well as an intel ICH10, which I assume is the USB controller, as well as the ICH9. From the ICH10 is the High Definition Audio Controller, LPC Bridge, SATA AHCI 6-port Controller, and SMBus controller. For another PCI Bus (#255), there is a bunch of intel QuickPath Architecture. Perhaps this is due to a conflict between the ICH10 and ICH9? Also, sometimes the computer completely freezes up, but doesnt crash; the most recent time this occurred was when I was using HWInfo64 to analyze the system, and occurred after a few seconds of looking at the little review screen it brings up.

So I haven't found a remedy for my problems yet, but I have noticed that during certain periods of usage of the computer, such as when I use HWInfo64 and playing games (sometimes), the computer will slow to a crawl, which is accompanied by spikes in cpu usage from one of the cores. I have also had another crash, except this was accompanied by a blue screen; there was no bugcheck, it just stated that "The system encounter a fatal internal error in its hardware error support".

Have you oc your cpu ? As i was having exact same problems reset my cpu (take out the battery on the mother board) and making it go back to normally values and have not experienced one yet. I was getting them every day or two with an oc

I have never oc'ed my cpu, so I don't think that's part of my problem. I could look at that, though, and see if it does help.
