Hello this is my first post. Im pulling my hear out here... Please help.

Ok, iv had a self built pc for about 3 years now. Amd phenom ll quad 3.2ghz, 4gb ddr2 ram, gigabyte motherboard, 64bit windows7 proper disc. I have a 64gb ssd just for windows and 320gb hdd for my files and programs.
In the 3 years iv had a few normal problems come up. Iv had to put my windows disc in a few times to either do a repair or even do a fresh install. Iv always been able to get it up and running again. Im not a total wizz kid but i know enough to build one of these things and i know my way around them pretty well. But this time i need to ask for help. Im baffled.

My problem is... Couple days ago i turned it on as normal. It boots up ok, i hear the beep. I then get the 'starting windows' coloured balloons. And thats it. Its not getting past that stage. I tried restarting a couple more times. Exact same thing. Now a little concerned but nothing i havnt overcome before, i resort to my windows disc to maybe do a startup repair. Set cd rom first in bios and restart. 'press any key to boot from cd' Great. Then, 'windows is loading files' all as it should be. Then i get the 'starting windows balloons'. Again it wont go past this point. Iv left it for a few hours and its still on the balloons.

My disc wont come up at all. Iv retried this loads of times to no avail. Then tried using an external dvd drive. Exact same just a little slower loading files. Now getting pretty worried cos this is uncharted terrotory. I then made an iso image of my disc using another pc and used that to make a bootable usb. Tried the usb ,got 'windows loading files' then 'starting windows' again it just hangs on this screen.

Iv tried pressing f8 and iv done every option, safe mode, debugger, low res, last know good config. All them. Just get the balloons again. So now im thinking its a hardware issue. Open heart surgery time. Took the battery out of motherboard. Tried again. NO. Took a stick of Ram out.Tried again NO. Disconnected hdd. NO. Opened up my other pc, put my ssd in. Did a disk check repair/fix. It said there was no errors. I then formatted it so i had fresh drive.

Put my now clean ssd back in my pc, left the hdd disconnected. So now its like doing fresh install right. Windows disc in drive. Cd first in bios. But still i cant get past the 'starting windows' screen. I cannot do anything. Other than buying a new motherboard and ram and building myself another one im out of ideas. This really is a case of a pc just deciding to die one day.

Please can anyone offer suggestions. Please help.

ok... with ONLY the keyboard, monitor, mouse and power plugged in... you boot and get past the BIOS and it detects a boot device.

Do you have a spare HDD? You could try Linux on it, just to test if the hardware is truly forked. I suggest Ubuntu, download the desktop version (either 32 or 64 bit) and burn the ISO, install the spare HDD and try to install it... Does THAT fail as well? Try it again with only 1 stick or RAM, then if it fails, swap and try again..

...??? results?

SSDs will gradually become read-only (due to degradation of the flash memory). The smaller their capacity, the faster that will happen. Before deciding to throw away other components, try to perform a fresh install on a HDD. If it works like that, you'll need to replace the old SSD with a new one (if you want a SSD for the OS) or just use a HDD.

Yea il probably have a go at linux. Like you say, to test if the hardware is working or not..
Thanks for the replys, il report back.

OK Guys, I downloaded Ubuntu last night, burned the image to a disc and tried it in my pc. I left my hdd disconnected so I was going straight onto the formatted ssd. Started my pc and it booted up fine from the disc. Ubuntu come up and I could go through the installation process no problem. It installed fine on my ssd. I restarted a few times to test the booting up, it was on the desktop within 30 seconds. So all my hardware seems fine to me. At this stage I was hopeful that when I now put my windows 7 disc in that things might start happening.

So with my hdd still disconnected I put my windows disc in hoping to now install windows. Start PC, boots up fine. 'Press any key to boot from cd' good so I press a key. 'windows is loading files' and then 'Starting Windows' again. This time I thought it would now get past this stage. BUT NO. exactly the same as before. Left it for half hour and still on that screen. I even tried taking my graphics card out and ran straight from the outputs on the motherboard. Still did the same thing.

Is it my windows 7 disc. Shall I buy a new disc. What else could it be. Any suggestions ANYONE PLEASE.
