Express Card or SD Card for Removable Storage of Personal Data

I have received a new Dell M6800 PC from the I.T. department at work. It has an internal SSD and HDD. I would like to add either an Express Card SSD or a SD Card for personal and removable data storage. I am concerned about cost for the Express Card and performance for the Express Card and SD options. Does anyone have any experience with what I am considering?

I reckon a portable hard drive is the way to go - it's external, plugs in to USB port, powered from USB port:

If you want backups of that data, you'll need two of them.
