I played a pin named Expressway in the MID-70's at a local arcade and can't
find any record of it in the pinball database. Was I imaginging this one?
Any one remember this one too?

My mate owned one and did a trade in as part exchange for a more modern
machine. He only got $91US (£50GBP) for it and it's a shame because
it had no ware and played well.

I might well have pictures of this machine also...

Expressway is one of the most fun EM games around. It was always one of my
top choices to play when it was on location in the early 70's. It's up there
with any Gottlieb wedgehead in my book. IMHO it is way too under rated and
neglected by players and collectors.

My info says Bally "Expressway" is a one player, with add-a-ball
feature. Design by Ted Zale, art work by Christian Marche, 1555 made.
Price would range between $150. - $450. depending on condition. All
above info taken from Larry Bieza's 7th ed. Price guide. Reccomended
reading for pinball people.

I fondly remember playing one in the Union Plaza casino in Vegas when I
was a kid, they had a game room back then with a bunch of pinballs and
such in it (maybe a Pong or something but this was the early 70's
before the video boom.) Loved that Expressway! They had a Fireball
too and that was a kick when the game went wacky once and racked up
credits up to the limit for no reason. Maybe one of those goofy quiz
machines with the projector screen and the a-b-c-d selection answer
buttons - remember those things? Damn I'm old....

I agree. I was compelled to find a pic of the playfield somewhere and found
it on the Pinball Database. It was always mine and my friends first choice
when we went to the arcade.

Pass the Geritol...Do you remember that spelling-quiz machine with the
scrambled 3-letter words? That was also a projected-image machine. You
had to hit the 3 buttons in the right order to get a point or
something.

We have Bally's Expressway in our time machine warehouse (stored in
1982, not touched since!)...available as-is or restored...

I don't remember but I should. It took a lot of my quaters. Lloyd;
Marvin; help us out here ;) There's also a newer "EM" out there now
that is very addicting. I think I'ts called Lighthouse or something.
You have three tries to stop a spinning numbered wheel on the proper
number in order to advance a light to the top of a lighthouse on your
last turn. It always has nice prizes like a cell phone or camera and it
seems simple enough but I haven't won yet. Never fails to empty my
pockets when I come across one.
