[SOLVED] Ext hdd not working at all

my ext hdd stopped working,
it shows like localdisk g:
i tried fixing with chkdsk, many softwares, disk managment
but the problem is when my ext hdd is plugged in, chkdsk, various softwares, disk managment stopped working
i tried to format it also but does'nt work either.
is my drive dead? what should i do?
help!!!

When an HDD won't format (but other drives will) it usually means that the drive has failed. For confirmation you can test it with diagnostic software such as Seagate SeaTools for Windows:

It can be used to test any brand of HDD.

It is dead.
It could be the powersupply, the enclosure, or the HDD inside.
If it is out of warrantly then you can remove the drive inside and often they are just a regular sata drive which you can connect it to a pc with sata & power cables. If it is still dead, then it's the drive.
