Extended monitor help

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

I am trying to enable the use of an extended desktop. i purchased a vga splitter with the hopes that i could do what i have done many other times with other computers. my graphics card is intel gma x3000 and when connected it only clones the screen but doesnt give me the option to extend.... it wont even recognize two monitors any way that i have looked ie control pannel - display properties and graphics properties - output... i have windows xp also... please help me i would rather not waste any more time on trying to do something so medial ...

Would you mind possibly supplying more information about your computer. Also, have you recently purchased the adapter? If so would you be inclined to perhaps purchasing a dedicated graphics solution so you could have a easier time extending your displays.

I'm assuming the splitter you have is simply a duplicator, you cannot extend with it.

He could also go with one of those usb vga solutions as well I know evga makes one. Of course not intended for gaming but it does the job.
