What options are there for me to extend my internet from my home to my garage about 1900 feet away ? I currently have Comcast internet at the house. Should I look into fiber optic cable? What would I use to connect the fiber optic to the cable box?
Wireless might not work,I don't have a clear line of sight. Looking for advice.

Thanks.

Solution
Fiber optic, or dedicated line-of-sight WiFi connection are your (only) expensive options.

Edit: Just saw you mentioned no line-of-sight. What speeds you are looking at for your garage?
That is a really bad distance you are right at the limit of the cheaper solution.

You can go 550 meters with multimode fiber. To go further you must go with singlemode fiber and singlemode optics (1310nm). This is assuming gigabit speeds.

If you can live with 100meg you can run 2km. on multimode fiber.

In either case you need small boxes that covert ethernet to optical connection. They cost about $100 each for the gig ones.

The ones you want for gigabit are called 1000lx (this is singlemode) The ones for 100m are called 100tx.

The fiber itself is the tough part. Since you will not have to tools to put cut or put ends on fiber you will need to have a custom cable built. There are special direct bury armored fiber but it tends to be expensive since they come in 6 strands and of course they are not terminated.

What you will likely have to do is run some form of tubing to protect the fiber. Then have someone build you a fiber with the proper ends. You can then VERY carefully pull the fiber through the conduit. This cable is not designed to be pulled though conduit so you must be extremely careful to not break it.

What you want to buy is Duplex Singlemode 8.3/125 Fiber Patch Cable with ends that match your media converters. This are commonly LC or SC.

If you go with 100m or if your distance is less you want Duplex Multimode 50/125 Fiber Patch Cable. Make sure you get 50 micron and not 62.5 micron.

that would work but it's quite expensive and you have to bury the cable / conduit under the ground which means a LOT of digging and identifying existing services so that you don't cut them. 3mm jacketed with SC connectors is most common and cheapest - but it's still expensive.

you could run it along the top or middle of a fence if one goes there, but that's still a long run of expensive cable and running it through the conduit.

to the OP - would it be more cost effective to simply have a mobile hotspot and/or tether from your cell phone while you're out there?
