I have an internet network at the house, but I also need it in another building about 50 - 100 ft away - and yes I can run a cable.
I just don't know what to connect to what, or what type of hardware I will need in the other building. So detail instructions would be helpful.

Thanks

Hi

Max network cable length between switches or routers etc is 100 meters so
100 feet should not be a problem provided the cable is best quality cat 5e or 6

And is not near high current mains cable and has mechanical protection

Make sure rj 45 connectors are connected perfectly by an expert or buy a pre made extension cable.

How many PC's at each end ?
Do you want wireless access at each end?

Just internet access or networking files sharing possibly a server ?

Typical home modem / router/ switch has 4 network ports

At far end a wireless access point with same wireless network as other end or a separate wireless network (getting more complex)

or for network cable connection at far end just a switch typical 4,5 or 8 ports...
For one computer you need one CAT5 cable long enough to reach from your router/modem/switch in the first house to the second one where the computer will be.
To add more computers with cable you will need a 4-5-8-12 port switch and enough shorter CAT5 cables to run to each computer.
For wireless in the second building you will need a Wireless Access Point connected to the switch in the second building.

Lots of questions need to be answered before best advice given
