Extending monitor cable. Advice needed.

I have a Dell U2711 running off a Radeon R9-270X using the 2-meter Dell supplied DVI-D dual link cable which works fine at 2560x1440 resolution.

All I want to do is extend the video cable to 3 meters.

I tried 4 different 3-meter DVI-D dual link cables but none of them would support 2560x1440.

Next, I tried a 3-meter HDMI v1.4 cable but again, this would only support up to 1680 x 1050.

Lastly, I tried the Dell supplied 2-meter DisplayPort cable which will support 2560x1440 but this caused the monitor screen to go black every 15 or 20 minutes for a second or so.

The only cable that works correctly is the short Dell DVI-D cable. I'm very frustrated with this situation. Can anyone advise what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Trevor

Thanks for the reply, clutchc

I have no idea about that cable and since Amazon won't ship to Singapore, I can't order one to find out. Anyway, it's only a 6ft cable and as I said, the Dell one works fine. I need a 10ft one.

However, having tried 6 different cables now (all 3M long) I'm reluctant to throw any more cash at cables until I have a clearer idea of what the problem is.

Thanks

Trevor

My bet is that quite simply HDMI/DVI werent intended to run for that distance (with that resolution) and your getting signal degradation. Wikipedia seems to indicate that a DVI cable can run for 4.6m while still supporting 1080p, obviously it might be less since your trying 1440p.

You need some way to boost or repeat the signal.

Hi manofchalk

I started out with that assumption but read so many reports of users claiming to have run that res with this or that cable.

The Dell DP cable works ok at 2 metres apart from the screen blanking which would appear to be another problem separate from the cable.
