Hey guys,

I'm purchasing some new headphones-
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/beyerdynamic-dt-990-pro-headphones-open-back-over-ear-5-35000-hz-response-250-ohm-impedance-1x35mm-c

and with this I'd like to get some sort of sound card or audio interface. Anybody got any ideas?
IT WILL BE PLUGGED INTO MY PC!

I was basically looking for something like this - http://us.creative.com/p/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-digital-music-premium-hd

but would like something under £40 if possible?

thanks,
Isaac.

if you want to get the most out of those headphones, you really should have a decent amplifier.

at minimum i would say a soundcard like the creative Z or fiio a3/e11 amp. better would be an amplifier like the fiio e09k or e12. if you dont mind keeping the somewhat cold nature of the headphones the schiit magni is one of the best bang/buck for amps. the fiio amps will bring out a little warmth in the 990s though which is why they are suggested. its also possible to use a tube amp to bring out a bit more warmth if you are looking for that.

if you use the a3/e11 remember you will NEED to use the high gain option which is a little switch on the unit.

if you wanted both audio improvement AND an amp perhaps look at an external DAC+AMP
