I just bought a new external usb CD/DVD drive to burn ISO files onto blank DVD's, Windows recognizes it, it plays CD's and DVD's just fine, but once i insert a blank DVD windows just asks to insert a disc and doesn't recognize the empty DVD. I tried reinstalling the drivers of it, tried using other burning softwares, iv'e even tried different kinds of blank discs like Verbatim DVD+R or Acme DVD+R and it still does not work. I don't know what to try at this point because i bought it with the intention of burning DVD's and it doesn't want to do that, please help, thank you in advance.

The drive is a Gembird dvd-usb-02 heres the link: https://www.gembird.nl/item.aspx?id=9924

Solution
Make sure you put blank discs right way up in the burner (ie branding side of disc face up).

Be aware that only Windows 7 or later has built-in support for burning to DVD media --- earlier Windows versions require burning software.
