External drive issue with ADTS files

I have an external drive plugged into my router acting as a media server fro films, tv shows etc. On my PC down stairs I can play every video file from it perfectly, however when trying to play on PC upstairs all the files show as ADTS files and wont play in VLC. Both machines are running Windows 10. This has me stumped, any ideas?

Could you please state how both systems are connected to your router? Are both systems running VLC player? how about trying K-lite codec pack with Windows Media Player classic and see if that runs your files off your external storage.
