Question External drive making this sound, what's the cause?

a spinning drive giving issues after it's dropped?

I'd be surprised if it can be accessed at all, and, if it can, would recommend any needed data by copied elsewhere ASAP!)

On the positive side, it's time to newly appreciate that new 4 TB SATA drives are now only ~$120 or less on Amazon...?

Dropped? Sound?

If you have any valuable data that's not been backed up on the drive, you want to get in touch with a data recovery service. Using the drive at all will most likely lead to the data being damaged beyond recovery. It's gonna be costly though. If the data is just 'nice to have' but not critical, you can try copying it but I wouldn't give it much chance.
