[SOLVED] external drive not recognized

I have a 500 external Seagate drive that is not recognized; The light goes on and it tries to read it. Any suggestions.

Is it making any odd noises?
Do you feel i vibrating (spinning) when you plug it in?
Did you check the power supply voltage if it uses one otherwise have you tried a new usb cable if that's where it gets power from.

Whats the model# of the drive?
Some externals have plain sata drives inside the enclosure and can be removed and installed directly into a pc or another enclosure.
