On edit: I unplugged and re-plugged the USB hub and it's working again.
That was the one thing I forgot to try. All fixed for now!
I have a WD Elements external drive I've always run off a powered USB hub. It recently stopped working. I think the problem might have started after the last Windows update, but I'm not sure. I've tried a few "fixes" I found online, but so far, no joy.
The hard drive works when I plug it into a USB port on the Surface Dock 2, so it's definitely an issue with the hub. I'm annoyed because I have an identical drive I need to set up on the hub. I was counting on the hub to continue working with this hard drive.
Any ideas?
