Question External DVD player playing CDs but not DVDs

I have a Dell Latitude 7480 and a Rioddas external DVD player. I can CDs fine. But when I put in a DVD it does not play. It treats the DVD like a normal CD. It puts up the title of the DVD and a top level list for the DVD. What am I doing wrong?

You probably need to install some DVD playing software. Windows no longer includes one by default.

VLC Media Player can usually handle it.
