external GPU shuts off during gaming

I use a external GPU (NVIDIA GTX 1080 ti), and in the past few days my GPU has turned off suddenly while playing games. I attempted to install new Nvidia drivers, turn down the power usage and up the fan power through MSI but it still shuts off. I’m not sure if the reason behind it is the overheating because it never reaches more than about 80 C, and for the months prior it’s been working great. Any help would be nice, thanks

What is the make and model of your external GPU's dock? Are you pairing the external graphics card dock with a laptop? Might want to make sure your crib's grounding isn't an issue. It's possible that lack of grounding and the possibility of a power surge is the issue.

The dock is an "Akitio Node Thunderbolt 3". Yeah, the dock is plugged into a 2017 MacBook pro and they both sit on a wood desk. If the problem is a power surge how would I resolve it?

EDIT: I resolved the issue by uninstalling the game. There must have been some kind of corruption in Subnauticas files...
