external hard disk connecting problem

when i connect my wd passport ultra bokk it does not connect to my pc and shows that u have to format before using it...i tried connecting to other pc also but it shows the same problem..is there any way to recover my data

Hi there priya07,

You can try to run chkdsk (drive letter): /R in the Command Prompt. If the issue you are facing is some kind of file system error or some bad sectors this may able to fix it.
