Hello guys,
I have a segate 1tb external hard drive. i have it for more than a year now. it worked fine for the 1st year. then it started to give problems. first the copying speeds drops down to kb/s. and while opening a folder from the drive it takes longer than usual. please suggest me what should i do. thanks

Hi,

Did you try another USB Port and cable ?

If you did try that and you are still having issues, it could be the casing it self that is having issues.

I've seen it mutlitple times that the case would not detect the hard drive inside or cause speed issues.

If you can buy a hard drive enclosure and put your hard drive in the new enclosure. That has resolved my problems every time.

Try using a diff USB cable, in case you see no difference then try this

1. Do a windows search for 'Administrative tools'
2. Run services shortcut
Once the services program loads find the services called Background intelligent transfer service and stop it
also right click on the same service and click properties then change the start value to manual or disabled.

Hi there hardik_kumar,

Most probably your HDD has some bad sectors on it. 🙁
My advise would be to start with just backing up the most important data stored on it. After that, you can just test it in order to make sure that this is the case: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
It is always a good idea to attach the drive with a different USB cable to a different port. Though, this sounds like a bad sectors related issue to me.
