Hello I have a 2 TB Seagate external hard drive, format FAT32 that cannot function. It started to happen after I synced some home movies from my external hard drive through my Sony VAIO laptop to my Samsung Galaxy S3 while watching Youtube. While in sync for a long time, everything shut down except the phone. The laptop was unable to turn on for a couple of days but it was still fine as it was, except for the external hard drive. When I connect it to my laptop it produces clicking sounds long before it is accessible on my computer. When I click on the drive, it takes a while maybe 1-2 minutes to open followed by the clicking sounds. On the Hard Disk Drive home screen, my external hard drive still retains all the original memory and the space left. But when I go into it more than half of my folders are gone. Before consulting any Recovery software I went on the Command Prompt and punched in chkdsk D: /r

chkdsk D: /r on the Command Prompt but still stuck on 0%

Occasionally this pops up:

The drive is not ready for use its door may be open please check drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR1 and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed external hard drive

Cancel Try Again Continue

I've tried both "Try Again" and "Continue" but it is still stuck at 0%

I would appreciate any help, advice, precautions about my problem. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post.

Hi thank you so much for responding! I have already tried /f and it was successful so the only issue that I have is /r and then it always keeps popping up. Once again thanks i7Baby for taking the time to read my post!
