I bought an external hard drive (my passport western digital) and ive already heard it making a clip sound after only a month. It has only sat flat on my desk. Is this kind of normal or should i look to use my warranty and get my files off of it.

Hey there, captainshifty!

Unfortunately, the clicking noises are never a good sign. 🙁 I'd advise you to backup your files from the WD My Passport immediately and run the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics to determine the health and SMART status.
Sadly, the noises could be caused by physical damage in the hard drive, so it's possible that the utility might not detect anything wrong with it. However, if they are persistent, you should definitely get in touch with our Customer Support and send your RMA request to get a replacement.

Best of luck!
