External hard drive error?

Hi,

My seagate 1tb external hard drive has decided to mess me about and say that the files are no longer in the location even though I can see them all there in the folders, I cant access them or move them etc, anyone know how I can get to my files?

You could try checking the disk for errors;

Right click drive in my computer and select properties

checked the drive and it says "windows found errors on this drive that need to be repaired, close this dialog box and then repair the drive"

how do I repair the drive though??

Open evaluated CMD prompt, type " chkdsk /F /R X: " where X is the drive letter ie C: or E:

Example: chkdsk /F /R E: - would check and repair drive E

Hey Jinksy, I tried that and it says that the file system is RAW?

ahhhh, Raw is not good. Do you have a screen shot of the error you get when you try disk check via my computer?

Jinksy, thanks for your help today, but I managed to install and run testdisk which couldn't repair the drive but has allowed me to copy all my files to a new location, so that's lucky! ;-)
