External Hard Drive Issues

Hello,

I am currently having an issue with my external hard drive. It recently has randomly changed its name from its automatically given one of 'freecom HDD' to just 'local K' and now when I go into it all my files and folders are not visible yet if you go into the disk properties it is still showing that the hard drive is half full with data, so its still reading that its got files on it?

This is Urgent as it stupidly on my part has all my work on it and all my personal photos and I haven't backed it up so need to get everything back asap.

Not the best way to start the working week, with a major issue preventing me from getting my work.

Any help or advice you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

The small PCB inside the enclosure may be faulty - a regular issue with external hard drives. Try extracting the drive and putting it into a third-party enclosure.

I have taken the cover of the HDD would there be any visible signs that the PCB is broken or damaged as a new enclosure isnt cheap if i then have to take it to a recovery specialist as well. I cant see anything obviously wrong with it?

How do HD Sentinel and USBDeview detect your drive?

USBDeview talks to the small bridge board whereas HD Sentinel tries to communicate with the HDD behind the bridge.
