A while ago my old lap was having a lot of problems so I bought a seagate 1TB external hard drive so I could back up all my files. I was able tp do this with no problem. However when I plug the hard drive into my new computer i get the message saying it needs to formatted. I don't want to do this because I would loose all the files I have saved to it.

Hi, we are sorry to hear that you’re experiencing trouble with your hard drive. You have a few options here as far as how to proceed. If you don't want to format the drive, as you've mentioned, and your goal is to preserve the data on the drive, your options are as follows: Try the drive with a different cable, try the drive on a different port, and try the drive on a different computer. Lab recovery services can be expensive, though and are typically the last resort. If you feel the need to reach out to Seagate Customer Support directly, you can do so by going here.

Please let us know how this works out!
