External hard drive no longer recognized by computer

I've been using a Seagate 2TB external hard drive for a couple years now, and have had no problems with it across multiple computers. Recently, though, it has stopped being recognized by my current computer - I have been using it with this computer for around 8 months now, and as far as I can tell nothing significant has changed - it just stopped being recognized out of nowhere. The light signifying power comes on and the hard drive makes noise but it isn't being picked up by the computer itself. I have tested it with another computer and it is being recognized without any problems - as far as I can tell, there was no serious file corruption.

Searching has told me that generally the problem can be fixed by going into Device Manager / Disk Management and that the hard drive will most likely show up there - however, it does not. I have noticed through unplugging my mouse (switching USB ports had no effect) that the only thing that changes is that one of two USB composite devices disappears while one remains - however unplugging the external hard drive has no effect whatsoever. I'm pretty much stumped on what to do so any advice would be appreciated.

Some screenshots to possibly help with solutions:

http://i.imgur.com/YAc1jNb.jpg - Device manager with the mouse unplugged - as mentioned, there is still a USB composite device picked up regardless of whether or not the hard drive is plugged in, an iPod charger being plugged in resulted in a USB mass storage device showing up with no problems

Any possible suggestions would be much appreciated. The fact that this problem came out of nowhere and that the hard drive still works when plugged into another computer has left me clueless as to what could be causing this.

Hi again, unwnd!

The issue might be with the motherboard then.
I'd suggest to reset BIOS then and check for any updates on BIOS and Chipset drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website.

Hey there, unwnd!

I'd suggest to uninstall all the drivers listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers by right-clicking on each one and then selecting "uninstall". If your Windows is set to perform automatic updates, then you simply need to restart the computer and let Windows Updates take care of the rest. Afterwards try plugging the drive back in to check if it will get recognized properly this time.
Have you tried all other ports on the computer as well? It might be a faulty USB port.
Check your external HDD manufacturer's website for any firmware updates on it as well.
While on the website, you can also download their diagnostics tool to test the drive itself.

Keep me posted! I hope this helps you! :)

Hi, thanks for the response. Uninstalling all the USB drivers and letting Windows Update reinstall them had no effect, the drive is still receiving power but not being recognized.

I swapped the USB port I was plugging the hard drive into multiple times when trying to fix it, with no luck. I'll check for firmware updates but as mentioned it works when plugged into another computer so I don't think there's any issue there. I also installed SeaTools but it failed to recognized the drive as well.
