Hi everyone,

I have a WD External HDD (not entirely sure on model), that, when I plug it into my pc, does not show up under devices, or My Computer. The light turns on when it is connected and I can hear noise from it (the fan?). Not sure what to do.

Thanks.

EDIT: Second inspection: I can't hear any noise from it other than a quiet constant buzz.

Hi there ElectrikBlew,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. 🙁
Is the drive under warranty? Do you have some important data stored on it?

Unfortunately, this buzzing sound could indicate some internal fault(there is no fan in the external drive). In case the data stored on it is crucial, I would advise you to contact a data recovery company.
Apart from that, I guess the drive is not recognized by Disk Management. If this is the case, you will not be able to access the drive with software tools.
It will not hurt to try using different USB cable. You can also attach the HDD to a different computer.
