[SOLVED] External hard drive not working

My Seagate 3TB external hard drive has worked for about two years and recently it’s been messing up and not working consistently. The usb wire isn’t the issue because I tried it on another hard drive and it worked. The power isn’t an issue and the blue light on the device is on. Although with everything supposedly functioning, my Xbox is not reading it and I cannot play the games I have on the drive. What do I do to fix this?

Can you read the disk from another PC?

It could well be a problem with your HDD.

If you can't clone the disk then you may have lost all data.

I smacked the hard drive a few times and then it worked.

ebashir538, take the opportunity to back the info up as it may falter on you at any time. Could of had the heads stuck.

Smacking a hdd is a definite no no, it does not make things better.

I suspect that you have a failed disk.

When you plug it into a PC can you see the disk in Diskmanager, does it show as an invalid format?
