External Hard drive Problem

My Hard drive come up occasionally and then does not allow any command, what should i do?

Try it in a different USB port. Also, some of the USB ports from the notebooks do not provide enough power- a powered hub may be helpful.

Hi there onoruese,

So, is your drive inaccessible all of the times you connect it or just sometimes? If you manage to access it, I would advise you back up the most important data on the drive as soon as possible.
Except changing the USB port, you may use a different USB cable(Y type preferably) as well. You can also try the drive on another computer.
Apart from that, it may be a good idea to test the drive with brand specific software. The results will show you the health status.
