Hi everyone
I have an externally connected hard drive that i have been using for a while now. In the middle of a file transfer to the drive it suddenly disconnected and is no longer as a drive letter. If I open up disk management the drive is listed but the partitions are not detected. I have tried connecting it to another windows machine and I get the same results. Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this?
Thanks

Solution
R-click "Epic BRah" and select Insert the Partition (Undelete). Apply changes, safely remove the USB device, and then reinsert it to allow the OS to re-examine the file system.

Can you post a pic of Disk Management?

Does it show as "RAW"?

External drives are not highly reliable....very much a commodity with several points of failure....enclosure, port, cable, controller.

It's showing up as 'unallocated' in disk management.

Not sure I've ever seen that exact problem.

"Unallocated" is what you'd expect to see on a drive with NO partitions.

RAW is often seen when an existing partition table has been corrupted.

There may be data recovery experts on here somewhere. I don't know.

The files may be lost or the partition may be lost or both.

If only the partition is lost, you have some chance of recovering the files...which may be undamaged.

Don't write to the drive. Disconnect it for now.

I assume you've tried other ports and cables.

Wait for further help.
