I have a Seagate 5TB external hard drive. I have an Asus RT-AC68W router with both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. I use the hard drive for backup of two laptops as well as a media storage device to stream over DLNA and to Plex. It is a USB 3.0 hard drive so it is plugged into the USB 3.0 port on the router. I recently had a power outage. After the power outage the hard drive was not showing up on the network. I plugged it into the USB 2.0 port and it worked fine. I plugged it into one of the USB 3.0 port on my laptop and it worked fine. I connected another external hard drive (USB 2.0) into both the USB 3.0 and the 2.0 port on the router and it is detected over my network. Unfortunately I don't own any other USB 3.0 devices to test in the router. The Seagate hard drive has a very specific USB cable connected at the hard drive so I can't try another cable with it. The router is less than a year old and the hard drive is about 6 months old. Both still under warranty. I just need to know where the problem is. Is it an issue with the router's USB 3.0 port or is it an issue with my hard drive's USB 3.0 connection? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
