External Hard Drive Western Digital

I have a Western Digital WD My Passport Elite 5000GB USB 2.0 2.5" Hard Drive. It works it the back usb panel ports, it works in my laptop, but not my usb in my front panel. Just clarify I have 2 usb ports in the front, both are 2.0. Anyway, I tried my iother HDD 500 GB in my front usb and it works, a usb stick worked, and a other USB's work. But my WD-hdd will not. Whats happening is when I insert it the light goes on then off in like a millisecond, then the messgge on the screen comes and goes up with a message no drivers then the drivers say it is OK in windows 7 SP1. Please if anyone has a solution or explanation it is appreciated. Its really annoying plugging in my hdd in the back because I have to crawl under my desk and I hate it. THANK YOU!!

Your front ports may not provide enough power to run the drive. I have also seen a few cases where other drives work, but one does not in a particular port.

If you want to have an easy way to connect your external drives, get a powered USB hub, and stick it on your desk near the monitor or somewhere. I got one that has a dedicated higher output port for charging things
