external hard drive won't show up

Brand new external Seagate expansion HD shows up in Disk Drives but not in Disk Management - and not when I open - My computer...

Help. It works great on a different PC - but not on the one I need it to.

Open CMD.exe as an administrator
Type in diskpart
Type in LIST DISK
You should see all of your hard drives now

Are any of them listed as Hidden?

I did this... and the drive was NOT listed... also now my dvd drive in the tower isn't showing up! Ugg... any other thoughts? How do I see if anything is "hidden"?

If the drive is not listed in there, then your computer probably doesn't recognize it. Have you set it to a letter in Disk Managment?

Hi there LP14,

As the HDD is not recognized by Disk Management but works just fine on other systems, then I guess this should be drivers related issue.

You can go to Disk Management -> Uninstall the drive -> unplug it and reboot -> plug it back in and see whether it will appear.
In case the issue persists, I would advise you to reinstall your USB 3.0/2.0 drivers. You can find them on your MOBO's website.

Have you tried using different ports? If you haven't, you can try the ones on the back of the computer case.
