When I delete copied files from my computer, it automatically deletes the file from the external drive, even when the external drive was not connected. How do I stop this?

I'm pretty sure that is not the case.
are you running some tool or application to sync data between your computer and the iomega drive? if thats the case you may want to disable it.

It's impossible to delete files of a not connected drive.

It's impossible to delete files of a not connected drive.

It deletes the file when I plug it in. No magic dust required.

Ah.. This mean your external drive sync with your system...

This is the only way it will delete the file by sync function.

Monitor the Processes or Application windows to see anything pop-up when plug in the external drives...

Now you know the software sync, disable it or delete ...
After that It won't able to delete your file any more
