External hard drive

I had to format my hp personal media drive (1T) and the os is gone. I have tried to get some information from HP but like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Do I need an operating system on this external drive? Or can I just start loading files onto it? Mostly .jpg's.

You should be able to just save your files on your Personal Media Drive, without an OS.
