I believe it will not hurt to start the troubleshooting process with just attaching the drive with different cables/cable. Do you have important data stored on the drive? In case you do, you can try to access it with some data recovery tool: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html After that you can try to test it with some of these: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility Is the drive under warranty?
