External harddrive errors on windows 7

My external harddrve throws a Data error(cyclic redundancy check) and the chkdsk/f does not work in my cmd it says ivoke this utility

That is really unpleasant. 🙁
How does the drive appear under Disk Manager?
I believe it will not hurt to start the troubleshooting process with just attaching the drive with different cables/cable.

Do you have important data stored on the drive? In case you do, you can try to access it with some data recovery tool: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html

Is the drive under warranty?
