External HD for two devices

Ok guys i have a 1tb External HD and i want to connect my PC and PS3 to it at the same time. I want to partition it so that my PS3 can pick up the FAT32 partition while at the same time my PC can pick up the standard partition. Is it possible to do this sort of thing?

I was told i would have to get like a USB splitter. Also would having both devices on at the same time damage the HD?

What you're trying to do is not possible. You can't hook a device up like that

I figured it wouldnt. Is there a USB switch so i can switch between devices? Like if i had the PC using th Hard Drive and then wanted the PS3 at another time use it could switch it over with a USB Switch or do i have to disconnect the USB cable and plug it in?

There are switches but they are more meant for input devices you can use one but You still need to do the "safely remove hardware" bit in windows. Of you just throw the switch you could loose data
