External HD issue

I ordered a new dock from iDsonix for my external HD that broke. It works just fine... however I get this message "The Disk you inserted was not readable by this computer (buttons) initialize.. ignore and eject." The problem is, I have loads of things already on the HD and I'd rather not lose them. What do I do?

I use Macbook with OS X "Yosemite"

Try using another USB port.

Can't, this is a special USB port that came with the dock I ordered. It has a funny square port to the dock.
