I have a 2 tb laptop HDD. I used a case to use it on my pc. Recently it started disconnecting and reconnecting suddenly. Which causes apps and games to restart. It shows a yellow triangle in task manager saying device install requested. Does uninstalling the HDD erase data on it?

Solution
Sounds like a loose port or it could be the drive dying but I'd say the port you're using is starting to be loose.

That would explain why the drive is being disconnected and reconnected all the time. The cable move inside the port. The port is loose and it lose connection.

Uninstalling an HDD from device manager won't erase any data on it.

But the cable doesn't move. I mean its stationary, that's what is worrying me. Can reinstalling solve the problem and how much it takes. and yea the HDD works normally

ohh its from the port connected to the hdd inself not the pc. Barely touching it is causing a disconnect. I noticed however a moderate vibration in the hdd, is it normal. I must mention also that it got a very hard slam last year.

That's one weakness abotu external HDD. Small port on the HDD and USB port on the PC. Both can become loose. The cable can become faulty. If your HDD works normally when it's connected then there is no problems. Your problem seems to be with the HDD port or the PC port. Nothing you can really do. Backup everything from that drive before the port dies and you can't get the data from it anymore.

You can't buy a new port. Well you can probably but to replace an external HDD port you need to do a job I cannot tell you how. That would mean removing the circuit board from the HDD and replacing it with a new one. I have no idea how you do that and I would not recommend you do if you don't know how.

If the port is loose or dying buying a new external HDD is the only thing left to do.
