External HDD displaying incorrect Used Space

My Western Digital My Passport 1TB external HDD is displaying that there is only 10 GB free on it....upon further examination there is only 250GB being used! I've emptied Recycle bin, i'm displaying all hidden files and all hidden system files....ran WinDirStat, and it only confirms what I've been seeing....there is no reason for this drive to be reading as full.....can anyone help me?

Did you format the drive correctly? Sounds like you made the partition size only 250gb. Try going into computer management and double checking that you have the rest of the partition formatted and extended first.

just checked, Drive is formatted NTFS, for 930.86 GB.
