Hello,
I connected a WD MyBook 1140 external HDD with data on it after a year of not using it.
The drive does not appear on the file manager, but does appear in the system:

I tried to update the drivers - it says they are OK.
I tried to initialize the drive as MBR or GPT, but I get an error "the request failed due to fatal device hardware error"

Your help is very appreciated.

Can you retrieve a SMART report with a tool such as CrystalDiskInfo? If not, then the drive has most likely failed. The device you are seeing in Device Manager is the USB-SATA bridge PCB inside the enclosure rather than the HDD behind the bridge.

No, since there is no drive letter. However, it is recognized precisely (only the model number) by the device manager and the WD utilities (show 0 kb)
