External HDD not recognized when using USB 3.0 port.

I have a problem where my external HDD is not recognized when I plug it into the USB 3.0 port. When I plug it into my USB 2.0 port, it works properly. I did find a work around for this. After I plug the HDD into the 3.0 port then run the USB 3.0 driver installer, than the HDD is recognized immediately and is mounted. However, when I remove the HDD and plug it back in, I have the same issue and is not recognized until I run the driver installer once again.

Other devices such as my mouse still works when plugged into the USB 3.0 port without any change.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You do not list the system that you are connecting this to. Check in Windows to see if this USB 3.0 port needs a driver. It may be on your motherboard manufacturer's website.

The system that I am on is MSI x460-DX (laptop). The driver I tried using is the one I downloaded straight from their website for this particular model.

Does the USB 3.0 port recognize other devices easily?
