External HDD on PS4

Hi Guys,
Recently i'w watched a video on digitalfoundry channel on youtube that shows playing games from external hdd on PS4 directly. how did they do that as i cant in my ps4. is there any special settings or so .Thanks

External drive needs to be USB3 , if its usb2 you won't get the option to use it as game storage.

mine is USB3 also, but i can only use at as an extended storage for my games library, but in digitalfoundry video, they play games directly from external hdd not internal, games like battlefield 1, witcher 3 & fallout 4

^ yea that's been possible since march with firmware v4.5.

Yes, its updated, Firmware 4.73....would u please tell me how to do that?

You may have to reformat , since 4.5 firmware & for ps4 game use the drive has to be formatted in a special ps4 file format.
This makes it useable only for the ps4 then unless you reformat it again on a PC for general use.
