Hello

I'm planning on getting an external hard drive to use with my Xbox One, and was wondering if a better option would be to purchase the drive and the enclosure myself, to this end I have a few questions.

1) If I buy a WD Green drive, will it outperform (on average) 2.5" external drives?
2) Will i be able to power it with 2 usb3.0 ports? (if so, how?)
3) Does using a usb adapter in a sata3 port slow down the read/write speed of the drive?

Please Note:
It must be usb powered, so I'm mainly looking at the WD Green drives as they have lower power requirements.
A capacity of 2TB is a minimum.

I like WD products as they have always worked well so my preference is with them.

Any other thoughts/suggestions/advice is greatly welcomed :)

Solution
It would have to depend on the psu of the xb1. Which i would imagine would have more than enough wattage considering how big of a brick it is, but i wouldn't chance it. Not worth the possible damage to the hdd. I'd just stick into the wall socket.

Can i just use a y splitter to get the extra power the drive needs? At <9W the green drive doesn't draw more power than is supplied by two usb3 ports, so could i just connect the usb and leave out the additional power cable?

Thanks for your help, I've done a bit more research and found that the supplied power would need to be >20W to account for dissipation as heat, so I guess I'll just have to get a powered enclosure :)

Yeah i know how you feel when i was about to swap out my hdd. I wanted to put it in internally but finding an hdd small enough to fit for what i wanted just wouldn't happen so i opted out for the uglier resolution. External with a sata enclosure. Gl with the fix. Tell me how it goes you get any faster load times?
