External HDD shown as shortcut file only...

My 1 TB hardisk is viible a shortcut file only. Whn i try to double click it it states an error the specified modue cld not be found ~$WPT.FAT32. Plz help to recover this..

Is it attacked by some virus recently?
As I know, the virus sometimes would hide your files on the drives and marks them as system file. And at the same, some related shortcuts would also be selected so that you cannot find your original data. So, in this case, the inner data may be still there.
Go run your anti-virus scan on your computer and try to find back your files.
Doesn’t work?
If it is not the virus problem, your drive may be corrupted. In order to get back your files and this hard drive, you could try some data recovery software online to help you.
If you are suspicious about data recovery stuff, you could firstly try some drive data recovery freeware:

And do not save new data on this drive till you’ve restored all your data back in case of data loss.
Afterwards, you could try to format this drive to see whether it could be used again.

I had to take a backup of all files. Then I just formatted the drive and copied back the contents. Thnks for ur suggestion....

I used avira antivir desktop internet security and also Malwarebytes anti malware...
Worked for me.... i found 14 files infected..
cleaned and nw copied my contents bck again on my HDD....
