External HDD "Unknown" and "Not Initialized

I have a Fantom Drives external HDD - Model Number: GF500Q - SN: SH860677
I open up disk management and it shows up at "Unknown" and "Not Initialized". I tried to initialize and it says "Disk not ready". I've been trying to figure it out for hours with no luck. Help!

Sounds like a possible bad hard drive / USB adapter? Can you take out the drive and connect it to the SATA inside the PC itself?

Hi there EdgarJ201,

In case you haven't tried using different cables, I guess you can try that.
Keep in mind that taking the drive out of the enclosure could void the warranty. Yet, if it is not longer under warranty, I guess you can try that.

I did but the computer didn 't boot it up

You can go to BIOS and adjust your boot order. Leave your OS HDD to be your only boot option.
If the issue persists, you can boot up Ubuntu from a CD or a flash drive and see if the problematic drive would be recognized: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode
If these two do not work, then I guess the drive has failed.

Yea classic symptoms of a failing drive. If you unplug it does it boot right up?
