External memory on Android

Hello,
Can't find a way to open an USB stick or a SD card on my Android PC. Will recognise the USB but not open. Doesn't seem to recognise the SD card. Can anyone help please. Thanks

the memory card must be formatted as FAT32 or EXT3/4 before you can use it in the android.
